Don't Let Your Lighting Heat Your Home

As warmer weather approaches, now is a great time to think about whether or not the lighting in your home is costing you unnecessary cash to cool your home. According to energy.gov, only about 10% to 15% of the electricity that incandescent lights consume results in light—the rest is turned into heat. This could lead to some rooms in your home contributing negatively to your cooling system's attempts to keep the room cool.
We recommend considering switching to LEDs where possible. (Some more information about LEDs and other lighting options can be found here at energy.gov). LEDs use 25%–30% of the energy and last 8 to 25 times longer than halogen incandescents. They are available in almost any shape or size, so replacing those halogens in any room is usually not a problem. Although more expensive, they will save you money by using less energy and by lasting much longer. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can start saving your hard earned cash. Give us a call at 732.938.2094 or email us to discuss some lighting in your home that you think is burning a hole in your pocket.
Besides switching to Energy STAR lighting options, you can also save money by ensuring you are maximizing the use of daylight in your home, turning off electrical devices like computers and televisions when not in use, and by maximizing your water heating costs by only running the dishwasher or laundry when full.
