The Summer months can be a dangerous time for your electrical service. The combination of increased use and a high probability of violent storms with high winds and lightning, can make any homeowner worry. Here are a few things to look out for that may be signal trouble.

  • - With additional demand needs, be on the look out for any buzzing sounds, lights flashing, repeatedly tripping breakers, or any smells that may signify an overheating situation. And not just in your home, but outside as well. We recently heard a buzzing sound from the electrical service at the street pole from one of our customers. It was a breaker that had gone bad. We were able to notify the electrical company, which let them repair the issue before it became a loss of service situation.
  • - Be sure to protect your home appliances against lightning storms by adding surge protection to your service. If you are not sure if your appliances are protected, give us a call at 732.938.2094 and we'd be happy to help you analyze your protection.
  • - Take a walk through your yard and make sure any outdoor electrical boxes or wiring is firmly secured in case of high winds.
  • - This may go without saying, but if you spot any arcing on any electrical component, be sure to contact us immediately.

Within a few minutes, you can thoroughly check your home and grounds for any apparent issues, and as always, keep our number (732.938.2094) handy in case you do find something that may be a concern. Some planning, a backup power plan, and a little preventive maintenance can go a long way.
